Online you’ll find me as sjramblings, which is what happens when you pick a handle once and then live with it for a decade.

I build on AWS at scale. Multi-account landing zones, secure VPC architectures, serverless-first applications, and the automation that stops all of it from becoming someone’s weekend. Lately that work sits next to AI agents: Bedrock, agent runtimes, and the uncomfortable question of what you let one of them do unsupervised.

A lot of my day job is regulated cloud in Australia, which means compliance is not something bolted on at the end. ISM controls, Essential Eight, data residency. Constraints tend to make architecture more interesting, not less.

Deep dives into AWS services and the patterns that survive contact with production. How-to guides for automation and DevOps workflows. Opinion pieces on where cloud, AI and engineering culture are heading. And the occasional project built purely because it was interesting: an IP-range time series, a personal feed system, a visualiser nobody asked for.

Most of it starts the same way. Something at work is harder than it should be, I go looking for why, and the going-looking is the post.

Talks and community

I’m an AWS Community Builder, and I speak at AWS Symposiums, meetups and internal tech forums. I mentor people finding their way through the cloud, which is mostly telling them the thing I wish someone had told me earlier.

I’ve also got the AWS golden jacket, which means passing every one of the AWS certifications. It is a ridiculous amount of exam sitting and I would do it again.

Beyond the cloud

Home DIY projects I am comprehensively underqualified for. Staying active, because mental health matters as much as uptime. Both are better for me than staring at a terminal at 11pm, though I still do that too.
